Psalm 1

Psalm 1

Joy: [.] JOY, n. [.] 1. The passion or emotion excited by the acquisition or expectation of good; that excitement of pleasurable feelings which is caused by success, good fortune, the gratification of desire or some good possessed, or by a rational prospect of possessing what …

1   Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.

Joy can be a passion or emotion.

This verse entices and hints to the reader,

that there is a joy to those who do not follow the advice,

hang out with, or follow the corrupt.

2 But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.

How can the reader get joy? Desire the word,

study the word, apply the word day and night.

3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.

The word is full of promises and here is one of them.

If the reader applies verse 2.

Our nourishment comes from our desire to drink from the river of life,

as a tree is planted by his source of nourishment.

As we stay planted time fruitfully and will prosperous in all we do.

4 But not the wicked!
They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.

But not the corrupt, they will work and not get anywhere.

They will be condemned at the time of judgment.
Sinners will have no place among the godly.

Not only will their time be wasted,

but the pain of not leaving a legacy worth remembering.

For the Lord watches over the path of the godly,
but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

The path of the righteous leads to Joy!

The path of the corrupt leads to misery!

I believe the Psalms have a theme:

never ever give up.

The psalmist talks about his problems,

but always declares what he will believe and do,

  • I will praise
  • I will thank
  • I will trust
  • I will believe
  • I will bow down
  • I will Love anyway

But mostly:
I will not stop trusting You Lord, and I will let go of what I think and feel!
